Food for Fines will zap your embarrassing library debt

Been avoiding the Johnson City Public Library because you're ashamed of your late fees? Afraid you'd have to sell a kidney to be able to check out a new book?

Simmer down.

Until December 15, the library will let you pay down your filthy book debts by donating canned goods through its Food for Fines program.

Each canned good you donate will knock $1 off your fines. The library says no fine is too large and they'll accept as many canned goods as you're willing to donate.

At the end of the drive, all the food will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank.
